A fine Empire-period gilt-bronze mantel clock depicting a poetic Neoclassical allegory: "Love Guided by Fidelity" or "Blind Love." As is customary, Eros (Cupid) is portrayed as a naked, winged young child, here shown blindfolded. He carries the clock movement on his shoulders and holds a leash attached to a dog in his right hand. The dog—a classic symbol of fidelity—walks ahead of Cupid, holding the torch of Hymen in its mouth (a sacred flame representing passionate union, purity, and the light guiding the couple toward a happy, lasting home).

The white enamel dial, featuring Roman numerals, is framed by a chased bronze bezel with a *guilloché* pattern. The top of the case is crowned with Cupid’s bow, a quiver, and a wreath of flowers. It rests on an ovoid base supported by toupie feet. The front is adorned with an openwork frieze of scrolling foliage framing a central medallion that depicts Eros playing with his torch. It features superb original mercury gilding, alternating between matte and burnished finishes (particularly visible on the wings, the chased detail of the dog's coat, and the drapery).

Silk-suspension movement in perfect working order, serviced by a specialist horologist.
This model is attributed to the bronzier Jean-Simon Deverberie (1764–1824). An original drawing closely resembling this model, created by Deverberie around 1798–1800, is held in the *Cabinet des Estampes* at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BNF).
