Magnificent gondola chair in gilded wood and carved with flowers, lotuses, water leaves and palmettes from the Empire period, stamped JACOB D. RUE MESLEE (association between Georges Jacob and his son François Honoré, known as Jacob Desmalter, between 1803 and 1813).
Characteristic form of the return to the Etruscan, very popular under the first Empire: the saber legs, the continuous rounded line of the backrest ending in a volute at the perfect edge of the belt.
The edges of the folder have a rectangular profile, creating a flat top face.
We find the same design of chairs in several models referenced in "French Consulate and Empire furniture" by Jean-Pierre Samoyault.
