PAIR OF TORCHES (OR CANDLESTICKS) FROM THE EMPIRE PERIOD OF CLAUDE GALLE (1759-1815), MODEL OF THE GRAND TRIANON, In chiseled and GOLDEN bronze:

it was with cut sides, topped with a ring with a laurel motif and ended with claws, resting on a circular base decorated with friezes.

A pair of identical torches, executed around 1810 by Claude Galle (1759-1815) is kept in Versailles, at the Grand Trianon, illustrated in H. Ottomeyer & P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I., p.327, fig. 5.1.8.

A pair of identical torches was sold in Paris, Hôtel Dassault, Artcurial, April 7, 2011, lot 257. Another pair of the same model, the one with brown patina, was sold by Christie's London, July 9, 2009, lot 41 .

The rarest Claude Galle model, and to my taste, the most elegant.

Claude Galle (1759-1815), bronzier and founder-chaser, received master in 1786 and active in rue Vivienne, provided the Garde-Meuble for the Crown under Louis XVI but also and especially under the Empire. In particular, he makes deliveries for the châteaux of the Trianon, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Compiègne and the Palais des Tuileries.
