Ewers emblematic of André-Antoine Ravrio, this rare model is distinguished by its entirely patinated bronzes and their fine quality of carving.
Oblong in shape, the body decorated with water leaves, openwork palmettes, the handles in volutes with the heads of griffins, ending in windings and a mask of fauna in the round.
They rest on a base with double pedestals quadrangular in antique yellow marble whose shade tends towards a very beautiful caramel color.

Very good state of preservation, original patina (not cleaned).

Attributed to André-Antoine Ravrio (1759-1814)

A painting by François-Henri RIESENER, dated 1812 and kept at the Louvre Museum (INV 7488 and MN 36), shows the bronzier André Antoine Ravrio in his office with a similar ewer.

André-Antoine RAVRIO (1759-1814) :
One of the most illustrious manufacturers of bronze art from the end of the 18th century and the 1st Empire. André Antoine Ravrio was received as a master founder in 1777 and set up on his own in 1790. He ran an important establishment under the Empire. Ravrio provides furnishing bronzes for the imperial palaces and for a prestigious clientele (Emperor Napoleon, Prince Murat, Louis Bonaparte,...).

If we go back to his origins, André-Antoine Ravrio belonged to a family of famous artists linked to a renowned cabinetmaker Vandercruse.
Ravrio chose his father's trade, that of bronzier, and very quickly became a sought-after craftsman at the end of the Ancien Régime.

What is less known about this exceptional master bronzier was that he was gifted with a talent for writing. He composed many poems and was the author of several vaudevilles. He was a member of numerous literary and charitable societies. He was also the creator of a prize of 3,000 francs to allow the discovery of a preventive means to fight  against the dangers of the use of mercury in the exercise of the profession of gilder on metals.

As with all of my art objects and furniture, I am very careful to be able to offer them to you at a very low expert estimate.

This pair of ewers is photographed in daylight. So you can enjoy it as it really is.
