Magnificent and very rare Pair of "arrow" wall lights, with four sconces from the Empire period, made by Claude Galle around 1805. This large and very elegant model refers to Diane Chasseresse, whose face is chiseled in applique . The central arrow as well as the hunting horns and the quivers, complete the attributes of the goddess. The sconces plunge into a lion's muffle. The top of the arrow is finished with a palmette of exceptional quality. Exceptional piece that Claude Galle presented in two variants: Diana mask above or below the sconces. Note that some models have dark patina sconces. Our model underlines and respects, in my opinion, perfectly the harmony of the arrow, which is much more elegant than in the other variant. Splendid original mercury gilding and very high quality carving, typical of Claude Galle. An identical pair, entirely in gilded bronze was delivered by Claude Galle in 1806, for the large reception room of the Secretary of State of France in Fontainebleau: "four gilt bronze mantelpieces, arrows, Diana's heads, palmettes and 4-light hunting horns "(Arch. Nat. 0 500, d.2, p. 14). Another model was delivered for the dining room of the Grand Trianon in Versailles on December 23, 1809: "Two pairs of arrow arms, Diana's head carrying four lights, chiseled and gilded in mat gold" (Versailles, Grand Trianon, T 4006 ). Christie's sale of November 7, 2012, lot 236.
