Beautiful pair of large gilt bronze candlesticks from the Louis XVI period, attributed to Claude Galle.
The molded circular base knurled with pearls, edge chiseled with leaves, center in raised cavetto and pedestal with leaf base.
Fluted conical shaft, surmounted by a vase with chiseled body of leaves.
The national furniture retains a copy, bearing the inventory number GML-7103-000.
Flambeau, inventoried present at the Tuileries in 1809 in the bedroom of the Empress's wardrobe. Entered in the Garde-meuble in February 1810, it was deposited in Versailles in the study or the room of the apartment of the controller then inventoried in 1817 in the dining room of the intendant of the Garde-meuble de la Couronne. Returned to the Garde-meuble in October 1834, he joined in November 1834 the King's rest room at Versailles and then in 1840 the cabinet of Madame de Maintenon. It is indicated in 1855 in the living room of the apartment of the honorary curator of the museum. In November 1869, he was deposited at the Elysée for the salon du commandant militaire.
